Today, more people would like to use the internet rather than watch TV. They can see TV programs whenever they want on the internet. They can get much more fun from the internet, because they can also use social media and message friends. The fall in television viewing was particularly high among young adults.
Compare the results of surveys conducted in 2010 and 2015 by the NHK Broadcasting Culture Research Institute, the proportion of Japanese people who didn’t watch television at all increased from 4 percent to 6 percent. The proportion of Japanese people who watched between 30 minutes to 2 hours a day went from 34 percent to 38 percent (Du, 2015). Japanese people spend less time on watching TV and TV consumption has been affected.

TV consumption has been affected by the Internet recently. Young people especially tend to enjoy watching programs or movies online rather than on TV because they can watch whatever they want anytime and anywhere by using a device. All they have to do is just to buy and download contents, so there is no need to purchase CD or DVD themselves. According to The Japan Times, a Cabinet Office conducted a survey and it says that the percentage of householder up to 29 years of age who have a TV set was approximately 91 percent 2 years ago, but decreased to some 85 percent in March 2015. Japanese people tend to use the internet to watch programs instead of TV these days.
The Japan Times “Japanese broadcasters launch online platform for viewing TV shows”
In recent years, many Japanese young people prefer using smartphone to watch video than using TV. A research found that the audience rating of television decreasing. Also the survey shows that many Japanese young people don’t watch TV very often. And they found that, the time that Japanese young people spend on smartphone or computer is much more than television. I think it is because you can use smartphone anytime, anywhere to watch a video or a TV program. Also you can use the Internet to share pictures or videos to your friends. It is much more fun than watching TV.
The development of network has brought great influence on TV in japan. Expanding Internet Usage and Changing Perceptions of Television among Japanese in there Twenties. With the web media development, many people believed that the young people have gradually ignored TV. Young people especially like to use Internet rather than watching things on TV. According to The NHK Broadcasting Culture Research Institute’s March 2007 Public Opinion Survey on Television in the Network Society (hereafter “Network Society Survey”)， reported younger generations to be progressively more active than older ones in accessing or sharing information through the Internet. I have to say that the network is more convenient than television. Internet helps people to be easily exposed to latest information. The Internet can make it more quickly and easy for us get information. That's why most of people prefer to use the Internet recently years.
I think that the users who use Internet or TV can be classified into young generation or middle age people. First, a research shows that young generation use internet as good as watching TV but they use Internet more time on holiday than on ordinary days. I think that young people often watch TV to get current topics or TV drama and use smart phone to share or get communication with their friends.
However, the middle age and people of advanced age usually use TV. The research shows that as the age grew older, the users who generally watch TV become increasing the rate in Japan.
Therefore, young people often depend on TV or Internet today and middle age or people of advanced age mostly use TV to get information in Japan.
In recent years, the number of Internet users has sharply increased and the TV consumption has been affected by the shock of the Internet in Japan. The ways people use the Internet are various, for work, for study, to read websites and blogs, and to shop. However, we can see how much value is placed on TV in everyday life. According to a survey by NHK, seventy-four percent of daily users say they “hardly ever go out of my way to find time to watch television”, while 35 percent of daily users say television is “indispensable”. As the media of broadcasting the information, 31 percent of daily users chose the Internet as the most useful for information. In general, TV and newspapers are gradually lose the importance and changed the roles in our daily lives.
It goes without saying that TV consumption is largely related to the Internet. In particular, I think many Japanese people have changed how to watch TV programs because most of them have a mobile device such as smartphone or tablet terminal and it is easy to see TV programs by using social media websites like YouTube as well as video streaming like Hulu. Also, most of young people have a smartphone and prefer to spend much time on the Internet. In fact, according to the investigation of media consumption, smartphone access is dramatically increasing year by year. I guess TV consumption is declining because of most of people spends a lot of time to use a mobile device.
However, according to this investigation, TV has more consumptions than the Internet yet. Nevertheless, I guess TV consumption will continue to decline due to the Internet.

I think many japanese people use smartphone. so TV viewing time is short. Recent years young people always use Internet and smartphone. We can get some information on the Internet. Forexample we can get hot news by Twitter. so I thought decreased get some information on the TV. Young people are watching TV about 90minutes in a day. However adults people are watching TV about 260minutes in a day. Adults people are long time to stay at home. so adults people has long viewing time of TV. If we forget the TV program you want to see, we can watch the TV program on the Internet. I think that has changed from the television era to the era of the Internet.
The growth of the Internet use has keep us away from watching TV. In 1997, only 6.4 % of all the family in Japan had the access to the Internet at home. At the same time in 1997, the number of people who watch TV at the golden time was large. About 70% of people were watching TV during golden time. Now, let’s take a look at the recent situation. In 2015, more than 80% of the all family have an access to the Internet at home. As we use the Internet more often, the number of people who watch TV has been decreased. In 2015, it was declined from 70% in 1997 to about 60 %. Now, we can enjoy variety of contents on many different media. TV is not the only option to kill time. The contents are still important, but the media we consume the contents with can be varied from TV to smartphones. Then, the time we used on TV has switched to the time we use on smartphone and other devises.
The effect that the Ministry of Internal affairs and Communications researched number of people who use the Internet in 2015, was 82 per cents of Japanese use the Internet. Especially, more than 90 hours of teenagers and twenty’s use the Internet. Numbers of twenty’s who use the Internet are more than twenty’s who watch TV show, and they read the newspapers or listen to radio are less than one hour.
However, sixty’s watch the TV show is more than 250 hours. So young people use the Internet and old people watch the TV show. When twenty’s become old, number of people who watch the TV show will be small.
I think internet has strongly affected TV consumption. Especially Japanese variety TV programs and news programs are depend on internet. Sorry I was absent this class, so I cannot state what is worth 5 points.
But then I saw these programs the source comes from SNS users. For example, the Ontake mountain erupted in 2014, 58 people died in this disaster. Maybe we ever seen and known then the situation on screen. Many news programs broadcast it. But this video was not filmed by TV executor. A twitter user took this video and post on twitter, and the official account of TV station found this video and then tried to contact him " May I use this video for our news?"
Basically, the journalists procure news for programs. But if such as a suddenly accidents news were happened, they cannot report it. However the people who been near the accident can. So there is a possibility, we may become a reporter or witness of the news for TV program.
